I believe that bullying plays a huge part in school violence. If a person is bullied and feel like they have no one to talk to, they will go into the irrational state of mind where they just want to hurt someone. If people didn't bully other people, then maybe school violence would have a drastic decline. In the article, it said that parents are usually to busy to see that something is wrong with their kid. But I think they should at least be able to see that something is wrong and they aren't acting themselves. If someone was planning school violence, I doubt they would be acting all happy at their home. If adults wanted to help students who are bullied, they should talk to them and get to know them. Once they build a relationship with the student, then the student would probably feel more better about themselves. It will probably help the student knowing that their is someone who cares about them. Students can help other students by lending an ear when needed and not bullying other students. As said before, if people didn't bully other people. then their would be a decline in school violence.
TJ Lane should be tried as an adult. Since he's a minor he would only get five years in jail. But he killed three people and injured two other and he should get a much greater punishment. Since he's only seventeen, they would have to wait long until he is a adult. Once he is an adult, he can be punished fairly for what he did. They should also give him a therapist to help him. With a therapist, he would be able to talk about his problems because he's clearly not in his right mind right now. Also, if he wasn't tried as an adult, it wouldn't be fair. It makes it seem that kids get away with a lot of serious things. Like if a child was to kill someone and only get five years, then it would make the child feel like what they did wasn't so bad. Also, most people mature around the age of fourteen. So you can't use the excuse, "Oh, they're just children. They didn't know what they were doing." But they do know what they are doing. This is why I think TJ Lane should be tried as an adult, so that he can be punished fairly.
Hey Lexie, I enjoyed your writing style. It nice to hear your opinion in what you believe the behavior of a school shooter would be. It would like to hear your ideas on all of the studies of a teenage mind. I agree with you on trying TJ Lane as an adult. If he killed and injured people, he should definitely receive a suitable punishment! One time I read that teenagers 16 believe they "know" what their doing, but in some studies, they are not fully developed, so they don't. At the same time I sort of agree with you with the use of the excuse considering I am around his age and we, as teenager ourselves, do believe we know what we're doing.
ReplyDeleteLexie, I have to disagree with you that he should be tried as an adult, because I think he just needs some help. After getting help, if he served 5 years in jail, I think it'd really help him.
ReplyDeleteP.S, you had some really great points!
